Sophie Gault is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter originally from Prince George’s County, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. She grew up on her artist parents’ record collection, listening to old blues, folk, and rock and roll from an early age. This music continues to shape both her sound and her approach to songwriting.
As a young child, Gault attended preschool in Washington, D.C., where frequent visits to the city’s free museums exposed her early to painting, sculpture, and history. That immersion in art left a lasting impression and helped form her relationship to creativity as something lived alongside daily life rather than set apart from it. Before committing fully to music, Gault spent more than a decade working in kitchens and taking on odd jobs while writing songs and performing. She was enrolled in graduate school training to become an elementary school teacher when an unexpected record deal shifted her path, drawing her back into music and eventually to Nashville with a clearer sense of direction and voice.
Her debut album, Delusions of Grandeur (2022), released under the name Sophie & The Broken Things, and her follow-up Baltic Street Hotel (2024) were released via Strong Place Music. The records established her as a writer drawn to unpolished honesty and emotional directness. Baltic Street Hotel, produced by Ray Kennedy, leaned into country rock, alt-country, and blues, earning attention for its raw guitar work, restraint, and vocal presence. In January 2026, Gault released her third album, UNHINGED. The record moves faster and hits harder, incorporating punk energy alongside rock and roll, blues, country, and folk. The performances are urgent and physical, and her voice carries a new level of bite and authority: confident, weathered, and fully in command.
UNHINGED is released on Torrez Music Group and reflects an artist stepping forward without hesitation. Gault is managed by Torrez Music Group, a hands-on, artist-focused management company known for long-term vision. The team was drawn to her artistry, recognizing a distinct voice, a strong body of work, and a clear sense of identity.
She has contributed to the work of artists she admires, singing on Stories from a Rock n Roll
Heart by Lucinda Williams alongside Siobhan Maher Kennedy, Buddy Miller, Margo Price, and Jeremy Ivey. She has also played guitar on select touring runs with Margo Cilker and sang background vocals on Drink the River by Gabe Lee. On UNHINGED, Gault is joined on the song “Is There Anyone Out There” by its writer, Gurf Morlix, a trusted mentor and longtime influence.
As a performer and songwriter, Sophie Gault is stubborn by nature. She works outside of trends, follows instinct over instruction, and makes music on her own terms. Her songs don’t ask for permission, and neither does she.
